Toyota develops on Prius base the hybrid coupe

Company Toyota has started working out hybrid coupe with the landing formula 2+2 which will make a competition to two-door car Honda CR-Z, whose sales in the Japanese car market will begin in February of next year.

The novelty will be constructed with use of units of model Prius: the compartment will receive the variant of a body truncated on 100 millimetres and the modernised version of a hybrid power-plant in which power 1,8-litre the petrol engine will increase to 134HP. Other components of a power-plant coupe Toyota — electromotors and accumulators feeding them — remain without changes.

The basic competitor of new model Toyota — coupe Honda CR-Z — will receive a platform of hybrid Insight and begins to be completed with a power-plant consisting of the 140-strong petrol motor in volume of 1,8 litre, the electric motor and the complete set of accumulators.

It is expected, that the debut hybrid coupe Toyota will take place in the middle of 2012. The prices for the car in Japan will begin from 2,2 million yens (about 16 thousand euro). Whether the novelty will be delivered in other countries — it is not known.
