Renault Logan is being rolled out in a phased manner into showrooms around the country, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has introduced two new variants, one each for the petrol and diesel models. The Logan was launched in April with three engine options, including two petrol — a 1.4-litre and a 1.6-litre — engines and a 1.5-litre diesel power plant
With a view to offering more choice to potential sedan buyers, M&M has launched the new GLX and DLX variants with additional features and has priced them in such a way as to plunk the new variant right between the trim levels currently available.
The new variants of the 1.6-litre petrol engine and the 1.5-litre dCi diesel models will now be positioned between the GLE/DLE variant on the lower priced, cheaper trim side and the top-end GLS/ DLS variant on the other, higher priced, more expensive trim side. Much of the changes that have been introduced with the Logan GLX and DLX had supposedly been initiated after a detailed customer feedback process.
The new variants will attempt to provide additional features that many customers demand in this segment either as part of standard fitment or end up getting retrofitted post-purchase.
Accorrding to company officials as much as 63 per cent of the Logan’s sales volume comes from the top-end variants.
The new variants’ additional features for the interior include adjustable head restraints for the rear seat passengers, a trunk room light, manually adjustable outside rear view mirrors, front and rear power windows and a central locking system.
The other additional features include a rear door trim with fabric and on the outside, body side moulding, which is both meant to enhance the looks of the car and provide increased protection against nicks and scratches.

Maximum Fuel Economy Meets Reasonably Good Power
Honda's intelligent Dual and Sequential Ignition (i-DSI) engine is the second i-Series engine, next to i-VTEC, that employs compact combustion chambers and two spark plugs per cylinder with individually controlled ignition timing for more rapid and complete combustion.
In developing the i-DSI engine, the objective was to achieve rapid and complete combustion. Since the Honda CVCC days in the early 1970s, Honda has been a great believer in optimizing the combustion process as a means of achieving high performance, high fuel economy and low toxic emissions. In the i-DSI engine, they would seem to have been able to achieve all three.
Narrower valve angles and other refinements have been employed to make the combustion chambers as compact as possible. The i-DSI engine employs an innovative twin spark plug system (two spark plugs per cylinder) for maximum combustion efficiency. In addition, the combustion chamber has been engineered to promote greater swirl of the air-fuel mixture.
The intake manifold shape has also been shaped and its length optimized.
Other refinements include world-leading friction reduction technology utilizing molybdenum-impregnated piston skirts, a rear-port exhaust system and an oblique-feed catalytic converter. And though the 1497 cc long-stroke engine has two valves per cylinder and only a single overhead camshaft, its output is a respectable 77Bhp at 5000 rpm with 125 Nm of torque peaking at a low 2700 rpm.
VTEC Engine
Honda CITY ZX also comes with the latest version of original Honda Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) engine that employs compact combustion chambers and new design intake port with Narrow Valve angles for Rapid Combustion and reduced friction leading to compatibility of fuel economy and powerful dynamic run.
For maximum engine performance at low engine speeds, the valves need to open and close differently than they do at higher engine speeds. VTEC system is engineering features to change valve timing and lift parameters in response to engine speed characteristics. Its action allows combustion properties to match the demands of current engine operating conditions to the perfection possible, hence delivering both high performance and high efficiency. 100PS, 5800 RPM, alloy wheels and disc brakes give superior performance making driving a sheer pleasure.
Each valve in an engine employing VTEC system is assigned a number of individually shaped cam lobes. These are all formed on the same camshaft and, through the implementation of electronic control, are switched in response to engine conditions using hydraulic pressure, thus enabling the above-mentioned features to be realized.
The 16-valve SOHC VTEC engine powering the CITY ZX has been provided with high speed and low speed cams with different profiles on the intake camshaft. Like its DOHC counterpart, the low-speed cam operates valves in low and mid–speed range and high-speed cam operates in the high-speed range (only for the intake valves in this case). This technique allows the engine to offer the best possible combination of ease-of-driving in everyday driving speeds, high power at high speeds and fuel efficiency.
At low rpm - Only 1 intake valve opens to let the air swirl in, resulting in clean burn and good fuel economy at low engine speeds.
At high rpm - Both the intake valves open at full lift to let the mixture of intake flow in totally, giving high power at high engine speeds.

CVT - Continuously Variable Transmission
The operation of a CVT differs from that of conventional auto transmission, as there are no individual gear ratios, thus eliminating shift shock and lapses as ratios change. It’s like having a single ratio, which operates throughout the rev range. The CVT computer continually monitors throttle opening and duration, and automatically changes driving mode for optimum control. It has an optimized belt speed ratio range and direct control of pulley side pressure to enhance transmission efficiency and fuel economy.
This belt-driven transmission, with infinite ratios, provides acceleration that feels linear to your demand, as well as effective engine braking for linear deceleration.
By eliminating the lull, lurch and wasted energy of conventional gear shifting, Honda CVT makes driving economical. With the improvements carried out, CVT in the City ZX becomes even smoother and more responsive.
CVT Shift Select Positions
D is the Drive mode - for normal daily driving use. The i-DSI engine’s design target is maximum fuel economy coupled with reasonably good power. This means that D mode is optimized for maximum fuel efficiency above everything else, and with peppy performance.
S is the Sports mode - for the time when we demand maximum performance from the Honda City without concern for fuel economy. Throttle response will become very urgent with the car eager to surge forward upon jabbing at the throttle. If the driver wants max performance above economy, he can switch to S mode.
L is the Low mode - for driving at low speeds. It is ideal to select L while driving in hilly areas as it provides ample torque and effective engine braking.

Spark
Spark would be available in four options with the prices ranging from Rs 3.09 lakh to Rs 3.89 lakh. However ultimately the success of any model will depend upon the following: Mileage Maintainance cost Spare parts cost Shape/look of the car price of the car Spark, which is actually the old Daewoo Matiz, would initially be manufactured at General Motors’ Hallol (Gujarat) plant and its launch has well turn the company’s fortunes in months with overdemanding booking.
Spark would be available in two versions of petrol engine: 795cc and 995cc. The 795cc, 6valve engine would compete with Maruti 800.
It will deliver a power of 8KW and torque of 68.6 Nm@4600 rpm. The three-cylinder design provides a very flat torque curve, which results in a less peak power delivery. The 795cc engine claims to give a mileage of 19.2kpl with a top speed of 142 km/hr.
Chevrolet Spark has a mono frame design, which maximizes the wheelbase, and in turn improves cabin space. The body is made of high strength steel, which makes the car lighter and gives the required stability on road while driving. Spark has a completely new torsion beam rear axle, which is coupled to angled shock absorbers and semi trailing arms.
Spark has 1L engine which outputs 63bhp of power and 90Nm of torque., Chevrolet Spark will give approx 17kmpl in similar driving conditions. slothful feeling. In the driver’s direct line of view, there is a semi-circular set of displays incorporating the control and warning lights.
In the center of the dashboard and slightly raised, is the instrument panel with classic-style analogue displays, easily visible to all Spark occupants. They provide information on rpm, speed and fuel level.
The odometer reading and time are displayed in digital form which means they are easy to pick out at a glance and the clever ergonomics mean you don’t have to peer through the steering wheel and take your eyes off the road. More cars should have this set-up.
For average sized people the Spark’s interior will pose no problems in the legroom department and headroom will fit for most sizes too. The seats are supportive and good for distance work. The rear seat’s backrest can be divided in the ratio 60:40 against the not folding type offered by Zen Estilo, enabling longer objects to be transported without problem. If the complete bench is flipped up, the capacity rises to an impressive 845 liters whereas the luggage space is 170litres.
Spark Safety and special features:
Anti Lock Braking System and driver-passenger airbags may not be offered in 0.8L spark and may be offered in 1Lspark as an optional one The range of safety equipment is completed by an energy-absorbing steering column, knee padding and a plastic fuel tank with a safety valve that immediately halts the fuel supply if the car turns over, thereby virtually eliminating any fire risk. Certainly it may not be the safest car but 0.8L spark will certainly score over the Maruti 800 when comes to safety. Air conditioning, power windows, power steering, remote fuel lid opener and remote tail gate opener will be offered as standard in 1L spark.
Price General Motors India (GMI) is offering a discount of Rs 53,000 on all the models of Chevrolet Spark for a period of ten days starting from October 12.

Whether it's because of 'prestige' connotations, additional boot space, or simply the desire to own a car that's bigger than the one in our neighbour's garage, three-box saloons are a big hit with us. Especially if they are reasonably- priced, cheap to run, and big on cabin space. Enter the Tata Indigo. We aren't saying it's the last word in refi nement, style, or driving dynamics. However, there's no getting away from the fact that the Indigo offers maximum bang for your buck. What matters here is cabin space, fuel economy and ride comfort, and the Indigo is strong on all those fronts.
Two engine options are available - a 1400cc (petrol) inline-four that makes 86PS and 110Nm of torque, and a 1400cc (diesel) that produces 63PS and 125Nm of torque. The petrol is quicker and faster, getting from zero to 100km/h in 16 seconds (19.5 seconds for the diesel) and hitting a top speed of 158km/h (154km/h for the diesel.) But as you can see, the difference isn't much, and given that diesel is much cheaper than petrol, most Indigo buyers opt for the diesel version, especially given that the diesel car does about 19kmpl to the petrol's 14.5kmpl. The diesel variant is about a lakh of rupees more expensive than the petrol version, but still outsells the latter by a large margin.
The Indigo, an indigenous effort from Tata, deserves to be lauded for what it is - a sensible, inexpensive, entry-level family saloon, which offers above-average space and ride comfort in its segment, and one that's relatively cheap to run and heavy on pocket to maintain.

Petrol Variants
Petrol engine gives maximum of 85PS @ 5500rpm with 32 bit micro processor . It gives maximum torque of 11 kgm @ 3000rpm.
Indigo GLE
It is equipped with various features like manual power steering, manual front and rear windows, grey bumpers, half wheel covers, partial fabric lining on seat, molded roof lining, high mounted stop lamp etc.
Indigo GLS
This model also has various features like digital clock, anti-glare rear view mirror, cabin lamp with spot reading lamp (front and rear) etc.
Indigo GLX
To mention few of the features present in this model along with the features of rest of the two models, there are available power steering and power windows, rear fog lamps, rub rails on door, full wheel covers, both sides outer rear view mirrors, rear defogger, central locking, audio warning signal for driver seat belt and many more.
Diesel Variants
It has maximum power output of 70PS @ 4500rpm and maximum torque of 13.52 kgm @2500 rpm. It has turbo-charged Indirect Ignition Diesel engine with inter cooler facility.
Indigo LX
It has various features like power steering and power windows (front and rear), full wheel covers, body colored bumpers, rub rails on door, full fabric lining on seats, molded roof lining, central locking, rear defogger, high mounted stop lamp, audio warning signal for driver seat belt etc.
Indigo LS
It has various features like manual front and rear windows, partial fabric lining, fabric insert door pads, anti-submarine front seats etc.
